Leighton Weese.

I am an actuarial student.  (Google "actuary").  Actuaries study statistics, mathematics, finance, and economics.  We work (sometimes as independent consultants) for insurance companies and pension plans.  We generally do not want you to die or have anything bad happen to you, because that would cost us money; however, we are not the ones that rejected your insurance application, so be nice.

I work in property and casualty consulting.  I do not work for health insurance companies.  As you might imagine, our work is similar, estimating the value of the financial risk transferred from insured to insurer, but due to different regulatory and marketing environments, our methods can be quite different.  However, there are still lessons that we can learn from each other, and as health insurance is a very hot political topic right now, I will be discussing it quite a bit.

I am an amateur student of economics.  My political philosophy tends to be Republicans out of my bedroom, and Democrats out of my wallet.
